So you've just moved into your new home in Syracuse, New York. Even if you did manage to bring most of your old things with you, you're probably still going to need quite a bit of stuff to set up and decorate your home. And what about heat resistant tape to fix those little leaks in the ducting and a new outfit for your first day at your new job? Yup, there's no doubt about it. You need to go shopping. Lucky for you Syracuse has enough shopping centers to meet all your needs and even a few you didn't even know that you had.

Carousel Center

The Carousel Center, three miles from downtown Syracuse, is not only the largest shopping mall in the city, it's also the number one tourist attraction for the entire central New York region. Open seven days a week, the Carousel Center is your destination for everything you could possibly need, from aquarium fish foods to designer baby clothes. There's also a movie theater, numerous restaurants, and a transit hub, which makes it the logical place for dining and entertainment as well as shopping.

There are nearly 200 establishments in the Carousel Center. Some, like Best Buy, JC Penny, and Macy's are large department stores. Others, like Aeropostale, Old Navy, Footlocker, Gap, Hollister, and Hot Topic, are major national franchise clothing chains. Still others are specialty stores that vend unusual items like organic diapers while there are also services like spas, beauty salons, tailors, banks, a gym, a vision care center, and a post office.

Armory Square

Malls are pretty much the same all over the country, so if you want a really unique shopping experience the best place for you to go is downtown. Armory Square is Syracuse's downtown shopping district and in it you'll find all the hippest boutiques. Pick up a pair of ladies pants no one else in your circle will have at the Enchanted Bazaar then meet the girls at Freedom of Expresso for a coffee. Buy great gift items at the Suds Factory or Sweet on Chocolate, or peruse the local artwork in one of several small galleries. It makes for a great afternoon.

Finger Lakes Outlet

If you're looking to outfit yourself without shelling out the equivalent of twenty gold bullion bars for the privilege, why not plan a shopping trip to the Finger Lakes Outlet Mall? There are over 100 stores with discounted brand name merchandise from major labels like Calvin Klein, Gap, Izod, and Nike. Some are damaged, others are out of season, but they're all on sale. Most of the retailers here are clothing suppliers or shoe companies, though, so this isn't be best place if you're looking for decorations or house wares.
